“Thank you, counselor, and thank you, SEM! I really appreciate your care for us. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, our counselors have been concerned about our health and living conditions. I had only five disposable masks at that time, and I used them for several times. I was afraid of going out since the number of diagnosed cases kept increasing. Masks sent by the school helped us at this critical moment. I feel lucky to study in such a caring school and I will definitely contribute to USTB and to our school in the future!” Yu De’an, a student of SEM, sent a WeChat message to his counselor.
During the large outbreak of the pandemic in the United States, Yu De’an was in New York City, one of the most infected areas. He had no family there to rely on, and the internship he had just found was postponed indefinitely. The delivery date of the masks he purchased on Amazon had been repeatedly changed. The shortage of protective masks brought serious trouble to his self-protection and daily life. After learning of his situation, the counselor reported it to the school immediately. The school asked counselors to send masks to students overseas as soon as possible. Along with the masks, a postcard was sent to them as well to cheer the overseas students up and encourage them to be more confident in facing the pandemic.
Counselor Li Xiang wrote to Yu De’an and Hou Xining in New York: “Recently, I have been following the international news every day. Please take good care of yourself. The masks can help you get through this special period. Hope the pandemic will end soon, and look forward to seeing you in Beijing in May!”
Counselor Cui Shuai wrote to Qu Qiao: “The pandemic is getting worse abroad. Please have good self-protection in the UK. Teachers and classmates at home is your most solid backup. Looking forward to your safe and healthy return to our beautiful campus in spring!”
After receiving the masks, Qu Qiao, a doctoral student of 2017, said: “I received the masks as well as the warm cards and warm words from the teachers of the school. I want to express my sincere thanks to you! Pandemic in 2020 is unprecedented in the history. We may encounter many difficulties. But since we have our great motherland and timely support from the school and teachers, we will live though these days and will be fine.”
Hou Xinping, a postgraduate student of Accounting18, said: “Thanks for the concern and help from the school and our counselor. Despite the distance, we always have our strong motherland behind us. I’m also concerned about the recent situation in Beijing, please take good care of yourselves! I will protect myself well and let’s meet in Beijing in May!”
Since the outbreak of the pandemic abroad, SEM has provided constant care and assistance to students overseas. Counselors have been contacting with each students every day, asking them about their health and living conditions, and providing helps to them according to their needs. Students overseas have followed the school’s requirements to test their daily temperature and complete the daily investigation on time. The international packages across the ocean and the love across the ocean show that our hearts are always together. We believe that the pandemic will end soon and spring will come eventually. SEM is always here for you.
