Lei Xiting, the partner manager of Polycom, welcomed the teachers and students of USTB-SEM, and introduced the overall development of the enterprise. Polycom and Plantronics have now merged into Poly Boyi to promote global cooperation. Professional headphones, desktop phones, audio and video conferencing systems, analysis and services provided by Poly are widely used in the world, and they are the industry leaders of integrated cooperation solutions.
Later on, Liu Liang, product manager of Polycom, explained and operated the equipment, and showed students the demonstration video of noise environment, so that they can feel the professional audio functions, powerful video and conference functions of Poly straightly.
Provide solutions for intelligent teaching and explore infinite possibilities of the classroom
The sudden pandemic disrupted people’s life, especially for office stuff and students. Remote office and online teaching have become the daily routine as people switch from face-to-face communication to remote online communication. However, in the long-distance video conference, sometimes the environment is noisy and the video and voice cannot be clearly heard by the other party, thus reducing the communication efficiency.
To deal with the above problem, Poly showed its power in the communication and remote collaboration market. Manager of Poly products operated different devices of Poly in different scenarios for students, and simulated how teachers can teach efficiently with high quality in different scenarios. For example, Poly Studio, 4K ultraHD video and USB interface can be used in small classrooms and conference rooms. And at the top of the camera, there is a noise reduction function and has a pickup radius of 3.6 meters, so that teachers don’t have to sit in front of computers all the time during the online classes.
Poly automatic tracking can be used in large lecture halls and large conference rooms to get a panoramic view of every corner of the classroom. Portrait positioning tracking technology can automatically focus on the speaker. The close-up images of the characters are smooth, and the speeches within 9 meters can be clearly transmitted to others. The live simulation allows students to intuitively feel the efficiency and convenience of video conference system and the changes of online teaching brought by the technology.
During the interactive section, teachers and students asked questions about the company’s products, application scenarios, audio recognition, teaching application, etc. The two managers listened attentively and gave comprehensive answers.
During the visit, Professor Yang Jianhua of the Department of Management Science and Engineering and the Director Lei discussed online teaching in colleges and universities. To meet the demand of MOE to continuously promote in-depth informationized education, Poly’s intelligent teaching solution made education out of classrooms come true and achieved cross-classroom and cross-regional development, thus contributing to the informatization in schools.
Finally, the two teachers expressed gratitude to Polycom for providing this opportunity for students to visit, exchange and study, and hoped that it could continue to be promoted in colleges and universities in the future.
The visit to Polycom enabled students to fully understand the frontier of remote cooperation trends and emerging technologies. With the development of general technologies such as 5G, people’s learning methods and lifestyle will be more flexible, and the efficient inter-connectivity will be realized.
