Recently, the Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on the First New Liberal Arts Research and Reform Practice Programs (Letter of The Ministry of Education [2021] No. 31) was officially issued. Following the institution recommendation, online and conference review and other procedures, the MOE identified 1011 new liberal studies and reform programmes. Research and Practice of Economic Management Discipline Transformation and Promotion Based on Big Data Technology led by Professor Yan Xiangbin from SEM was formally approved. At the critical moment of the scientific and technological revolution and the industrial revolution and at the time of China’s transformation from old to new economic driving forces, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the new era, the project adheres to the fundamental task of moral education, takes the initiative to undertake new missions and follows the new requirements of the times. It keeps in mind the origin, absorbs the good from others and looks into the future. With the support of emerging information technology, the project intends to reform and improve the study of economics and management majors.
The project will fully investigate the changing trend of the society’s demand for economics and management talents and analyze the higher education development situation of liberal arts in the new era. It will follow the talent training concept to strengthen moral education and promote integration and innovation, introducing big data into the construction of economics and management discipline. It will transform and improve the professional development mode, foster a professional development system that integrates big data with other economics and management majors and integrates economics management majors with traditional advantaged engineering majors. Also, the project will build big data embedded and cross-disciplinary curriculum that provides advantageous, upgraded and compound courses. It will adopt a more advanced talent cultivation mode to cultivate new-type talents that can meet the need of the new era by strengthening the value guidance, enriching education forms and perfecting the talent training mechanism. Through the project research, it is expected that the development and application of big data technology can be effectively combined with the discipline system, training scheme and training mode so as to cultivate excellent economic management talents of the new era with moral sentiments, and be able to follow the development of the times and undertake the task of national rejuvenation.
Research objectives and main contents
The development of new liberal arts is of great significance to making liberal arts education more innovative, fostering a new pattern of philosophy and social science development centered on educating people and cultivating talents, speeding up the training of liberal arts talents in the new era and enhancing the soft power of Chinese culture. New Liberal Arts Research and Reform Practice Programme is an important approach to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discussion on education, promote the building of new liberal arts in all aspects, and build a world-class liberal arts talent training system with Chinese characteristics. SEM will take this project as an opportunity to follow the new demand of building Chinese soft power and culture prosperity and the new trend of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. The school will promote the deep integration of big data and other emerging information technologies with economics and management majors, continuously improve the quality of the majors in the new era, and strive to cultivate high-level economics and management talents in the new era.
